In This Corner by Jon D. Smiley, C.E.O.
The hospital board of directors makes an annual retreat to work together as community representatives charting the future direction of our hospital.
That annual retreat is underway this weekend (9/27-28). Hospital board members provide a tremendous service to the community and Sunnyside Community Hospital.
Serving without pay they bring areas of business and community expertise to the issues we face as a hospital. (Not only do they serve without pay, the hospital board members have been some of the largest contributors to the hospital foundation.)
This community has a long history of supporting healthcare. Where once that led to the creation of two facilities. It later led to the community decision to merge those struggling hospitals into Sunnyside Community Hospital. Today, we work together with the board to continue to build for the future needs of health care here.
While the board examines the future, they continue to rely on each of us to be the stewards of this tremendous trust. We must do all we can every day to provide excellent customer service. In addition to excellent care of patients and families, that means treating each other as customers. You cannot give your customers the best possible care and berate the service of another department - those ideas are in compatible.
Please continue to consider what excellent customer service means to you. We want people to come to us for the care they need to enjoy the best quality of life possible in their individual situations. If we ever take that responsibility for granted we will be failing our responsibility to care for the people of the valley.
So please thank our board members, and they appreciate and thank you for all your hard work every day.

Hospital United Way Team
Getting Ready
Jill Nettleton, Yolle Widdows, and Charlene Maling are getting ready for this fall's United Way Campaign. Jill and Charlene are the hospital chairpeople. Yolle is a loaned executive helping out at the hospital and throughout the community.
Please be sure and fill out your pledge card when you receive it. Jill, Yolle and Charlene are asking everyone to pitch in just a bit more than last year so the hospital can have a successful drive.
