The graduates listed above are fine examples of the young people coming out of the schools of the Lower Valley. Since they all have a connection to the hospital, I am pleased to see so many fine employees are also fine parents, aunts, and uncles. Ask any educator, and he or she will tell you that the real difference in the growth and development of a young person begins with "mom and dad". So, I commend all you parents, and say congratulations to all the grads; those pictured above, and all those others at our high schools and colleges.
For the past decade we have offered cash awards to the graduating classes of our area high schools. We continued that tradition this year and received thank you notes from the classes. Our purpose in making these presentations is to acknowledge the completion of 12 years of schooling, and encourage our graduates to keep going toward a higher education.
We also salute our nursing graduates above. We are very proud to continue finding new nurses from within the community.
Also in this issue we commend Susan Jue-Moreno honored last week as the outstanding employee for the quarter. Click below for larger image.

Mammography Fund
submitted by Coleen Goulet
The local Soroptomist group raises money for our mammography fund that provides women without insurance the source to have a screening mammogram without anything out of pocket. The group recently gave us $6000.00 and is planning a fundraiser at the Indian John Rest stop in August. They need people to work shifts at the rest stop taking donations and giving out coffee and cookies. They also need cookies. The fundraiser is August 6-8,2004 if anyone of your staff could donate their time or make cookies please get back to me.
This program is of great benefit to women in our area who have little or no insurance coverage. It is also of benefit to the hospital to provide payment for screening mammograms. Not only do mammograms save lives, they can also reduce the overall cost of healthcare to the rest of us, by detecting problems at an early stage. While this is important for all of us, helping the uninsured cover less expenses medical procedures really does cut the cost of healthcare as treatment can be done far in a less expensive procedure when it is caught early.
